Week 1: In week1 we worked on our first reflection. We worked on our acrostic poems using our names. We also made our group name, “Awesome Ex!! Ninjas.,”and made our not-so-secret hand shake. We are so Awesome!!!! We presented our not-so-secret hand shake and we had a song called “Everybody was Kung-Fu Fighting” playing in the background. Our group members are Yoon Soo, Hee sun, Christian, and Lucas. Our mentor is Ms. Brenna. Our goal was to work together well in a team.
Week 2: In week 2 we had 7 Guest speakers and we picked organizations to research. For the goals we said we had to prepare our persuasive essay. We each chose an organization to research , Christian chose TFT(Toys For Tots), Lucas chose KOTO, Yoon Soo chose Save The Children. Hee Sun chose Compassion International. We all said we loved our organizations. Our goal was to prepare our persuasive speech.
Week 3: In week 3 we decided to do Compassion International and Hee Sun didn’t need to finish her presentation. We just wanted to choose it because we didn’t want another group to to take our organization. Plus, Hee Sun did a very good job. We also did the simulation about how education, health, food, and toilets are very important. Our goals was to do some research on Compassion International .
Week 4: In week 4 we had to write our sources and questions on a google doc. Lucas and Christian made the google doc. We put lots of questions and sources on our google doc, and Yoon Soo contributed most of the sources. Hee Sun made an e-mail and sent it to Ms. Baek who was part of Compassion International in Seoul.
Week 5: In week 5 we started making note cards and we organized our source cards. We made a google doc to keep our questions and sources. Yoon Soo found almost all of the sources. We might be going on a field trip to Seoul, where there is a Compassion HQ. Our goal was to research a source that we were assigned. We all are enjoying organizing our project.
Week 6: In week 6 we discussed our note cards on the three sources that we researched: Compassion International, poverty.com, and World book “poverty”. We learned that poverty affects people in many ways. This made our group very sad because there are more people in poverty than we actually realized. The information made us want to do something about it. We wanted to help them by donating a cow. Christian is excited because we get to research human rights. Hee Sun is nervous because of the final presentation.(SCARY!)
Week 7: This week we went on a field trip to Compassion International!!!!!!!!! In Compassion International we met the communicator, Ms. Baek. She let us watch three videos. One was about poverty, the second one was how you have to be treated, and the last one is how we can help. After we watched the three movies we had a little interview. We asked her eight questions and she answered it for us. We recorded it in Garage Band on the Mac computer we brought so we could take notes on it later. After we did our interview she gave us a tour. We really enjoyed her tour. She showed us what Compassion International is selling. After everything was over she gave us a little present. It was the Compassion International calender that they were selling. We said “Thank you” and walked out of Compassion International. We got a taxi and rode it to Seoul station. We were all squished in a taxi! Yoon Soo was the navigator, Hee Sun was the squasher, Lucas was the pigeon toed dancer, and Christian was the giggler that made most of the taxi drivers laugh! We went to smoothie king before the KTX ride.(and it was good too!) Christian said that Orange KA-BAM!!!! was the best but Yoon Soo and Hee Sun said strawberry was the best. Lucas really liked banana. We had conflict but solved it by remembering that everyone has different opinions. We enjoyed the field trip a lot. (P.S. We met the CEO of Compassion Korea!!)
Week 8: In week 8, we mostly did reflections because it was the half way point of EX!! We read other people’s notecards and found holes in our research. We discussed about them with Ms. Brenna then she graded our collaboration rubrics and talked with us about ways we could grow in the next quarter!
Week 9: This week we were not able to finish our goals so we made different and deeper goals. This week we outlined most of the information and sources that we wrote down on our note cards, we were not able to found much things about ‘What is Compassion International?’ and human rights questions. Our goals were to feel in the big holes that we found during mentor meeting. We also had a interview with Mr. Dewey on Skype. Heesun wrote the notes, Yoon Soo did Garage Band, We all asked questions and Christian was sick.
Week 10: This week we chose the media we would use for the presentation. In other words, we started planning. We chose the media we would use for each line of inquiry. We enjoyed coming up with the media that we would use We had came up with the ideas for, Comic Life, Keynote, Skit, Poster, Brochure, and many more.
Week 11: This week we found a lot of holes from our research and was ale to fill them as
quick as we could, Hee Sun found research about “What is Universal human rights?” as we did not research anything about that. Yoon Soo and Hee Sun finished taking notes on the Miss Baek’s Interview and Christian and Lucas looked the outlines and corrected them. We had a lot of goals for this week. Our goal for this week is finding more and filling out the holes for our research. We each got new jobs as we have chose the lines of inquiry for our Exhibition presentation. We hope we can catch up as we are two weeks behind!!!!!!!!! Awesome Exhibition Ninjas!!! HAIYA!!! We can do it!
Week 12: We’re having fun! We started a campaign called Change for Compassion. This will be a competition between classes to raise money for a well through Compassion International. We are going to have a booth in I-Fest with a fund raising game. We are going to have containers in the elementary classrooms so that the elementary kids can donate. Christian designed the logo! Hee Sun made the Monday folder flyers! Lucas made the note to send the teachers before chapel! Yoon Soo helped make the whole keynote! We are being enthusiastic about our ideas and it will be fun to see who wins the competition. We have also been working on the final night’s Exhibition!! keynote. Christian will be working on the Comic Life and skit for action! Lucas is doing the human rights part for the keynote!
Week 13: We are finishing up our EXHIBITION PROJECT! OH NO!!!! We have started working more efficiently in a shorter amount of time. This is very useful since we have less than one week to present our final night. We started making a rough draft for our poster. In our poster we are going to have a time line comic life, our Change for Compassion logo and flyer and some other pictures. We had KRISPY KREME DONUTS!!!! THEY WERE DELICIOUS! We hope we get all 4’s for the final night. We are excited but sad about the FINAL NIGHT! We are almost finished with all the components!
