Fantastic Four

Week 1
In Week 1 we met our mentor Ms. Sligh and named our group Fantastic Four.  Jonathan(Mr. Fantastic) said, "Our group had four people and we're Fantastic! Isaac is THE THING, Everett is the Human Torch, and Mackenzie is the Invisible Girl." We filled out the Weekly Log and got to know each other. THE THING said, "The hardest part was coming up with the name and agreeing on it. Everett said Purple Penguins, Mackenzie said POWER PUCCA! and Jonathan came up with Fantastic Four." Our group strength is Organizing and our challenges was working together.

Week 2
In Week 2, we had Mr. Z, Hannah, Mrs. Price, and Mr. Dewey. Mr. Z talked about K.I.M.(Kid's International Ministry), Hannah told us about Save the Children, Mrs. Price told us about the Koutiala Hospital, and Mr. Dewey talked about Compassion International. The Invisible Girl said," My favorite organization the Guests speakers talked about was Compassion International by Mr. Dewey." Mr. Fantastic told us, "My favorite organization was about Ownership." We heard about a lot of organizations that we didn’t know before.

Week 3
In the 3rd week, we also had a couple of other Guest speakers. Joanne told us about G.I.N.A. and Love-In-Action, Ilyoon told us about Toys for them, Mr. Mike told us about Extreme Nazarene. Ms. Parslow told us about Amnesty Iternational, Mrs. Moimoi told us about LiNK, and Mr. Richardson told us about Peace Corps. We decided on our organization, United Nation World Food Program, or U.N.W.F.P.
Week 4
In Week 4, we researched about WFP. Our question are What does malnutrition do to the body? Why rice? Why 10 grains of rice? Who started WFP? Why and When? How does WFP help people? How does WFP get rice to kids? Where in the world are people the most hungry? WHY? During our meeting we got to eat Cheddar cheese popcorn and Demi Soda. So Delicious! :) We skimmed the site and we made our questions deeper.

Week 5
In the 5th Week, we started looking at the contacts and there is one in Korea! Very good! But it is North Korea, in Pyong Yang. Not so good. Ms.Sligh said, “Looks like we can’t meet them face-to-face!”  We discovered a lot about WFP and learned a bunch of things! We also looked for sources but so far we only have 3. “I wish we could have at least 4 sources.” said the Invisible Girl. Mrs. Price came in and made our questions more deeper. The horizon is looking brighter and brighter every day for the Fantastic Four! And so on our names will never change, Fantastic Four!!!

Week 6
We found books on Kenya, Africa because saw that Kenya was suffering from hunger on the hunger map on WFP.org. It was rated a 4 out of 5. There were not any books on the countries that were rated 5. Mrs. Price told us that World Book Encyclopedia might count as a book source so we know that we will find sources hungry places in Africa rated 5. We talked about reflections and talked about note cards and our articles that we printed. We finally found a book source! We showed Mrs. Price Poverty.com because it was linked to World Food Program and FreeRice.com. We learned two more key words: agriculture and economy. Agriculture is things that grow out of the ground like wheat. Economy is how you make money.

Week 7
Today, we shared our reflections and we all made plans. Our plans were to get Jonathan to change some notes in our question about malnutrition and for Everett to research more types, and facts of malnutrition and help make note cards for some of the other questions. Mackenzie worked on making note cards for the Kenya book. They were treated like servants in World War 1 and 2. Isaac made another question on food force, the game, and finished 2 note cards. He already had it from Ms. Sligh. We did not get any email from WFP. We almost did all our jobs for today. We, as a group, made goals together. One of them were to add on our google doc and to play food force. Ms. Sligh sent us an e-mail about the trip to Seoul and she really wants to hear about it. “We can’t wait to tell her!” says the Invisible Girl. We also went to the War Memorial ad we saw tanks, trucks, jets, and even a boat! Inside the boat we saw a 4D movie and it was about the NLL, we saw people who risked their lives to save South Korea. On the inside, we saw the different countries who helped and what the Koreans did during the War. It was so awesome!! :P

Week 8
First we came in and did our handshake. Then we shared our reflections and did our self-evaluation rubric. Some people played Food Force and we got Marcus Prior’s answers to our questions. We did the collaborative grading. With Miss Sligh Jonthan and Isaac were talking about the Scholastic story about the 30 cents and talking about our ideas why it is 30 cents. Mackenzie looked at banners to maybe add to our blog. Everett played the food force game to learn about the WFP jobs during the mentor meeting. Mackenzie printed the email from Marcus and began reading it. She will finish later.

Week 9
First we shared our reflections and then we took notes. We looked at source cards and looked at notes. We tried putting questions together. Now we made them into 3 parts. Part1 (Who\what), we will put it first in our presentation. Then, we scanned our important notes in our journals. We even made three new sources, Marcus Prior, Food Force(the game), and Teach a man to Fish(a video). We cut out answers from Marcus Prior’s email and glued it on some note cards. We forgot to make time for our goals so when we are at home we had to make a goal and do our reflections. At the end, Ms. Sligh took our overdue books back to the middle school library, but luckily, we didn’t have to pay a fee. This is the last week to get to make notes so now we are trying to cram in some last-minute notes. Soon, we will have to present our Exhibition final project in May! But first, we need to figure out what we need to do. It’s so hard!

Week 10
We talked about the word donor; the person who donates. It sounds like doughnut and loner. We made outlines and we made posters like part 1.2.3 We typed out things about the 6 missions from Food Force the game made by the WFP to help teach about what they do in real life. We brainstormed about what we can do to help TCIS know about WFP. We thought we might do a comic on Comic Life and put it in the newspaper so more people might know about what WFP does and try to help it.

Week 11
We did our journals, and we also brainstormed about what to do for our action. We brainstormed about what we could do at iFest. We created an Inspiration 8, or part of one about WFP’s history. Isaac worked on Comic Life about where people are hungry. Mackenzie edited the skit because we are going to act it out instead of video taping it. Jonathan worked on the podcast on Garageband and is 80% finished.

Week 12
Today we shared our reflections and did our handshake. Then we found out how long our podcast was so we could do our 20 minute scheduling. We ate donuts and we practiced our fantastic skit. We edited our skit and looked for pictures to add to the keynote. Everett is going to check his emails! We rearranged our slides on keynote.

Week 13
Today we shared our reflection and practiced our presentation and made some edits to our keynote. We switched the slides around and added some slides like ones about Marcus Prior, Free Rice Friday, the simulation, central idea and lines of inquiry. We practiced our skit. We finished our poster!! We transferred stuff from the desktop to Miss. Sligh’s USB. And we also put those to Jonathan’s and Mackenzie’s USB because Jonathan’s USB got erased and everything got DELETED!!!All we need to do is add stuff in our keynote and practice! By the way we got Fantastic snacks for our last mentor meeting. We are so sad that this was our last mentor meeting and we are nervous about EX!! but we are excited for it to be done and S.E.W will start!!! This week is going to be very CRAZY!!! The computers were very annoying because they would not print!!!
