Week 2

This week we will be talking about the history of the United Nations, the 30 Universal Human Rights, and the 10 specific Children's’ Rights.  We are starting to look at different organizations that help Human Rights, and will have many guest speakers via classroom visits and through Skype, to share what they are doing.  Share with your child any organization that you know is helping a Human Right.  During our Mentor Meeting this week, we will be discussing different Human Rights and Organizations that interest us.

Week 1

This week, we unpacked our Central Idea and the first Line of Inquiry.  We discussed and brainstormed the difference between ‘Needs’ and ‘Wants’ by cutting out pictures in magazines and identifying them in those two categories.  We also watched a video on what Human Rights are.  Following that, we passed around pictures that told stories of human rights that we saw had been violated.  On Wednesday, we had our first Mentor Meeting, and came up with group names!
