Love and Peace

Week 1
Mentor: Mr.Zickefoose.
Group Members: Jake, Espen, Hannah, and Mayte

On Week 1, we started EX!! (exhibition 2011), it’s about Human Rights. Our group first made a handshake and did an acrostic poem. Espen wasn’t there because he was still on vacation. So, during the presentation, Jake had no partner to present with. We named ourselves “Love and Peace”. We also did our first journal reflection. We all felt pretty good about Exhibition 2011. A few of our questions were: How did Ex start? How does it help us? We didn’t have many problems but it was sad that Espen wasn’t there.

Week 2
Espen Returned!!!!!

We had many, many, many guest speakers who came in to our class. Our first guest speaker was our own mentor, Mr.Z on K.I.M.! Then after that, was one of our group mate, Hannah on Save the Children. On the same day, Mrs. Price came to tell us about Koutiala Hospital. The next day, we Skyped the  Deweys on Compassion International. Then came Joanne(G.I.N.A.), Ilyoon(Toys For Them), and Mr. Mike(Extreme Nazarene). For our weekly goals, our group’s goal was to put an organization on a google doc. Today we started to brainstorm ideas for our rights and organizations.  Jake was thinking about KIM, Espen was thinking about Peace Corp, Mayte was thinking about Toys For Them, and Hannah was thinking of Save The Children. We didn’t have much arguments about the rights because everyone wanted food and water. But for our organizations, we had some different ideas so we decided to vote the next week. It was FUN! Some questions were Why are so many people dying when so many people are helping? And how can we prevent people from dying?

Week 3
This week we had to choose our organization. There was Espen and Hannah wanting to do Save The Children, and Jake and Mayte wanting to do Kids International Ministries(KIM). But Espen and Hannah persuaded Jake and Mayte so our group’s Human Right and organization is Food& Water, Save The Children. We did a great job cooperating to get our Human Rights and organization. We also did a really cool simulation game. In this simulation game, the theme was people that live in the Slums. The Slums are really beat up old buildings that a lot of poor people live in.  We learned the importance of learning, health, and freedom. This week’s goal was to be ready to take notes. This week we worked smoothly without conflicts.

Week 4
This week Hannah and Espen came up with a way to help people. We decided to make donation boxes! So Hannah made a donation box and put ten thousand won in it. We were proud of ourselves for coming this far of the process. Mr. Z liked our thinking skills and told us we could make the boxes this week. We got excited about collecting money and donating it to save someone! We decided to save up for a well for a poor family somewhere. This made us feel good and happy. Espen’s dad came in to be a guest speaker on the Peace Corps. Our goal was to look for Save The Children sources and make source cards. We also have to make questions for our research. The meeting worked out very well.

Week 5
On Week 5, we shared our questions and talked about our reflections as we always did. Also, we shared our research questions and our interview questions. Brandon was there and had interest in what we did. Also, the principal of GSIS, was there too. Then we went to the library and looked at resources we can use. Jake went and showed our email(to the president of SAVE THE CHILDREN) and Espen looked at the SAVE THE CHILDREN site. Hannah and Mayte looked for book sources and sited them. This was one of the BIG steps of research. Espen also made two donation boxes. Our goal was to finish our Korean Email and interview questions and to write notes and sources(get more). We didn’t have any problems, we cooperated well.

Week 6
On week 6, Mayte was gone. So there were only three of us. For our mentor meeting we went to the library. We started to took notes and made a source card. One of our problems was that Jake was gone for a little while and he had our EX!! box with him. However, Jake emailed us our questions and source numbers. We were able to take a lot of notes. We went to the website and looked at our books. We accomplished our goal(to take a lot of notes). We didn’t have many problems except for our box being gone for a while. Our goal was to take notes and finish our Korean interview e-mail. It went well but also frustrating because Jake was gone with the box and Mayte was gone.

Week 7
On week 7, we took many notes by going to Save the Children Korea in Seoul. We had to get ready for the interview and take good notes. We also had to get at least another source. We were able to achieve this goal by taking notes on the interview and we were ready for the interview. For sources, we got two sources: which were the people we interviewed. We had some questions like How do we do interviews with another person? How can we make the information we got into good notes? We interviewed a woman in the advocacy department of Save the Children and the CEO of Save the Children named Miss Helen Ryu and Mr. Nohbo Kim.  We were able to get a lot of notes taken.  We interviewed them face to face after a field trip to the War Memorial Museum. Then we rode the KTX home.  The following day, we met with Mr. Z for half an hour and made goals.  Our goals were to set out the donation boxes, transfer the notes that we took from the interview into note cards, finish our blog reflection, and create our logo.

Week 8
On week 8, we were able to take a lot of notes by cooperating. We shared our journals and then we worked hard together. Our goals were to talk about/set out donation boxes, take more notes/transfer our interview notes on to notecards, finish week 7 blog reflection, and to wear our badges to school. Our group was able to finish most of our goals, but we couldn’t reach the goal of setting our donation boxes out. We also need to send another mail to Mr. MacCormack, and finish our thank you letter to Save the Children Korea. We had some questions like When can we interview the President of Save the Children and How can we get the group moving on?  Will the skype interview give different information than the one in person?
After we finished sharing our journals, we started research. We were able to do lots of things. Our goals this week are to work on donation boxes, send email to the President of the American Save the Children Mr.MacCormack, finish blog reflection, meet on chat, and take more notes. When we work on this we chat with each other so that goal was pretty easy to accomplish.

Week 9
This week our main focus was to get as many notes as possible because this was the last week to take notes. We are a little behind on our plans but we might have an interview with the president and CEO of Save the Children Mr. MacCormack. We got a lot more sources with Mr. Zickefoose’s help during our work time. We worked on notes and organizing and finding new sources. Our goals were to resend and email to Mr.MacCormack, meet on chat, finish thank you email to the CEO of STCK. All of our group mates couldn’t reach all of the goals. For a few weeks, we couldn’t take notes, for weeks we couldn’t work on donation boxes, and  we couldn’t work on our interview. Our goals this week were to work on notes, thank you email, and transfer our notes to a doc.  Also, we have to finish filling out source cards for our new sources.

Week 10
This week we weren’t able to reach most of our goals. Today we shared our journals and started working. This week was the last week of doing our research so everybody was busy doing things. Espen talked to Mrs. Price about our notes we took. Mr. Z wasn’t here so Mrs. Price was our mentor for the day. Jake typed the data(notes) on our question data document. Mayte and Hannah took notes and finished making source cards. Time flew by and we met again to talk about the blog reflection and our goals. Our goals were to finish writing our data on the question document and to brainstorm ideas for our Taking Action and ways to Present. During that weekend we made the document for our brainstorms for our action and presentation.
Some good things were that we got LOTS of quality work during that time. Bad things were that all of us didn’t do most of our goals.

Week 11
This week most of our goals(all) were finished. Our group worked hard this week and got a lot of things done. First we shared our journals. We had to finish the data doc, brainstorm ideas for presentation, and brainstorm for action. Today we first worked on our data doc and made final changes. Then we brainstormed ideas for presentations and started working on it. Jake and Espen decided to do a skit together and Hannah and Mayte worked on their iMovie/Keynote. Jake and Espen started typing their scripts for the skit. They decided to work on a puppet play.  Hannah worked on her questions for her iMovie interview(Mayte didn’t work on it that time). We spent most of the time working on data doc and our ideas for action and presentation. Our goals was to update data doc(Our part), decide presentation and action, and work/brainstorm presentation.

Week 12
Jake and and Espen finally finished the puppet show and recorded it. Everyone in our group had a part in it and it was really fun to record it and set it up. We are just finishing up our goals and have most of them done. This week we had some troubles though. Some of the people in our group didn't know what to do. There was a lot of wasted time and confusion, but we were still able to come out successful.  There are only twelve days until the big Exhibition Night and everyone is super excited.

Week 13
This week we had a celebration for how much work we accomplished, we had Krispy Kreme! But before that, we shared our journals. We had some questions like “How can we make our presentations entertaining?”, Where are we going to present, and what will the night of be like? We had shared our journals, thought of tasks, and then ate some strawberries, donuts, crackers, and french pie. Jake got some feed-back on his skit he created. Espen and Mayte worked on making the sources in alphabetical order. Hannah got feed-back on her brochure and worked on it. Later on she finished it.  The countdown has started, only 10 more days till EX!! night!

Week 14
This week we shared our journals as usual. We were able to work/finish our goals. Some problems happened during the working time, such as starting over the display board because it was to artsy. Except, we didn’t have many problems. Mayte thought our work day went okay, and Jake thought it went went good but not too great, Espen thought it was the middle of okay and good, and Hannah thought it went okay as well. Hannah worked on a iMovie for our introduction for our presentation. Mayte and Espen worked on the display board  and bibliography . Jake finished the iMovie with the puppet show and the podcast. Hannah also made a really, really, really good I-movie and after that we finished our poster board. Now all we have to do is memorize our presentation. YAHOO!!!!!
